A (runway) walk down memory lane.

As Winter 2021 slowly thaws and Spring 2022 creeps closer, looks from the Spring-Summer runways have started to appear in stores worldwide. What sticks out immediately in most of the collections for spring feature lively pastel tones. Color palettes in fashion tend to mirror the seasons: SPRING- pastel tones; SUMMER - bright neons and vivid color; FALL - muted earth tones; WINTER - neutrals and pops of jewel tones (particularly around the holidays.)

Chanel’s Spring Summer 2022 collection hits home with pastels coupled with 1990’s throwbacks; the sense of nostalgia and 90’s glamour a’la Karl Lagerfeld are striking.

But I want to talk about something a little deeper than color today. I want you to think about nostalgia and how it’s being used to appeal and ultimately sell, sell, sell; Chanel’s iconic HEART Bag is the ultimate unicorn piece for most collectors and this season, Chanel has updated and re=released the whimsical silhouette in modern color tones. Most of the clientele who shop at Chanel were either children or young-ish adults when the first heart bag was released in the early 1990’s; the sense of return to whimsical times is an underlying theme on multiple fashion house runway shows for this Spring. Perhaps a sign of longing for a return to simpler times; the desire for an escape from a post-covid world.
